Having recently discovered the Spin magazine video section http://www.spin.com/videos on their site I have since seen a bunch of great acoustic unplugged acts. You can see Lou Barlow do a solo jam called “bulletproof” and hear Wale rap his “Nike Boots” to a sparse room of Spin execs and special invites. They perform exclusively in front of an austere Spin back drop suggesting that it’s all about the unique audio recording. Where else are you going to see Kings of Convenience sing “it’s my birthday (I can cry if I want to)” with a wicked trumpet solo without actually having a trumpet? The highlight for me was to see Sparklehorse play and hearing Metric’s acoustic version of “Help, I’m Alive”, totally bare bones and pitch perfect.
If all that doesn’t get you locked in, the cast of Glee hits up a session too.
